Breed Education Committee Updates (September 2006-February 2007)
The 2006 National Specialty found the members of the BEC and BCA
Presenter-Tutors working hard to provide both member education as well as
judges education. A fully detailed article, authored by BEC member Barbe
Lynch, appeared in the Specialty Issue of The Dew Claw. Of note were the
widely well-received Movement 101 Seminar and the Claudia Orlandi Seminar, "
The ABC's of Dog Breeding ". Also unveiled at the annual meeting was one of
the Judy Schramm drawings deemed virtually complete by the BEC, such that
the membership would have an up to date view on how that work was
progressing.
Since the National, the BEC has continued to work on various projects. We
have continued work with Judy on the illustrations for the Breed Education
Booklet. This is a task which has required a lot interchange between artist
and committee, and the BCA is fortunate to have a gifted artist with a
passion for the breed who can and will take direction as necessary to arrive
at the end goal.
The BEC also has worked to further develop guidelines for future
tutor-presenters as well as BEC members, with or pending Board Approvals.
The BEC also has implemented certificates for seminar attendance, which may
useful for application to future Briard University Programs , or for those
who wish to become Presenter-Tutors, BEC Members, or AKC judges.
Members of the BEC joined with the American Beauceron Club for the first
comparative seminar on the two breeds. A great of background work was done
prior to the actual event, which included a side-by-side Power Point
Presentation developed by David Behrens. This was presented in NYC for the
DJAA(in conjunction with Westminster week). Presenting on behalf of the BCA
were Meg Weitz, Terry Miller, Barbe Lynch. The sub-committee that worked on
the initial concept and program were Dave Behrens, Kathy Lanam, and Meg
Weitz, in conjunction with ABC breed education chairperson Earl Karas.
The BEC continues to develop the concept of Briard " U ", and has plans for
various presentations at the ASBC Regional in April, the MOBC Regional in
May, and the BCA National in October.
Importantly, we would like to solicit the membership for their assistance in
gathering some very important photos.
We have a section entitled " Gallery "
on the BEC website, and would like photos of dogs
who achieved the following National Specialty wins: BOB, BOS, WD, WB. Not
all of these win photos are necessarily available from club archives--any
and all photos would be welcome. There is no need to send an original, and
please do not send color copies, but rather a JPEG(200 dpi), to Barbe Lynch
at bigtree@rochester.rr.com. |
